Wholewheat Pesto Bread Roll

Pesto is not only used on pasta, but also lots of meals. Some people spread it on the bread. ME?! HaHa… I am quite lazy in the morning. I just want to eat bread directly… Also, spread on the top of bread? Is that too oil?! I have no idea... But, I think if pesto can be spread on the bread, it should be okay to be wrapped into the bread. Right?! I think it will make inside bread more moisture because the dough will absorb the pesto. So, let’s me try it.

Oven Temperature Setting: 200C/392F; Baking Time: 20 minutes
Recipe: 2 Wholewheat Pesto Bread Rolls

Steps

(1) Weight all ingredients well
(2) Place Wholewheat Flour, Plain Flour, Granulated Sugar and Salt into a big bowl. And then, stir a while.
(Selena’s Kitchen Talk: Every time I bake the bread, I will mix dry ingredients firstly. Salt will kill yeast if it touches to yeast directly )
(3) Add yeast into the mixture. Mix it.

(4) Then, add Hot Batter and 150ml milk into the bowl as well. Stir and mix into well until there is no flour.
(5) Move the dough ball into a lightly floured work space. And put butter on the dough. Then, start to knead it.
(6) Add 30ml milk several times when you knead the dough into a smooth and elastic dough ball.
(7) Move it back to the lightly greased bowl. And brush some watch or milk on the surface of the dough ball. Wait around 1~2 hours until it doubles the size.

Steps of Assembly

(1) Move the dough to the table with light flour covered. Squeeze the air out. Divide it. Roll each half into a 30cm by 40 cm flat.
(2) Spread 15 ml pesto over the surface. Leave around 1 cm at one side. So, pesto will not spill to everywhere when rolling it.
(3) Drizzle 10g of pine nuts and sunflower seeds over the top

(4) Roll it up. Then, repeat step (1) to (4) for another dough.
(5) Leave there for the second grow-up around 40 ~ 60 minutes. Then, brush water over the top. Send it into the pre-heat 200C/392F for around 20 minutes.

WoW… WOW… It is so YUM… It is way over my expectation. Although it looks like a regular bread roll, you can smell very strong pesto when slice it. This can serve either in hot or cold. I like it a lot. I think this idea is quite similar like garlic bread, doesn’t it? Enjoy it.
